Stone Brewing Co. Releases Latest Collaboration: Chris Banker/Stone/Insurgente Xocoveza Mocha Stout

Monday, September 08, 2014

Una cerveza con chocolate? A beer with chocolate? Si! The latest collaboration beer from Stone Brewing Co., Chris Banker/Stone/Insurgente Xocoveza Mocha Stout, is a milk stout infused with coffee, vanilla, cocoa, peppers, cinnamon and nutmeg. A creative take on Mexican hot chocolate, the beer was originally developed by San Diego homebrewer and Communications Officer for the Society of Barley Engineers Chris Banker, who submitted his recipe as one of the contenders vying for supremacy at the annual Stone Homebrew Competition & American Homebrewers Association (AHA) Rally held at Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens - Escondido earlier this year. Given the cross-cultural twist and Stone's proximity to Baja California's burgeoning craft brewing scene, Tijuana-based Cerveceria Insurgente was invited to be a part of the collaboration. Today, the beer will begin arriving in 22-ounce bottles and on draft at retailers, restaurants and bars in select markets nationwide.

Monday, July 14, 2014

In 2013, Stone Brewing Co. CEO & Co-founder Greg Koch invited long-time friend, actor and overall geek idol Wil Wheaton, along with Fark.com creator Drew Curtis, to collaborate on a massive yet seductive imperial stout dubbed Drew Curtis/Wil Wheaton/Greg Koch Stone Farking Wheaton w00tstout. Since the beer was wildly popular with geeks and craft enthusiasts, Stone decided to re-brew it this year, inviting Wheaton and Curtis back to the brewhouse in May. However, with Koch out on sabbatical, Curtis called on longtime friend and multi-talented actress, comedian, podcaster and homebrewer Aisha Tyler to help brew the slightly revamped second iteration, renamed Stone w00tstout 2.0. Starting today, it is available in 22-ounce bottles and kegs at select retailers, restaurants and bars in Southern California, as well as Curtis’ home state of Kentucky.
