2013 Stone Old Guardian Barley Wine Aged in Bourbon Barrels
We tinker with the recipe for this hopped-up behemoth each year; the 2013 version was rich, smooth and malty, finishing with strong citrus and tropical fruit hop notes, and a pleasant lingering bitterness.
A special shipment of Kentucky bourbon barrels provided the perfect hibernation vessels for one of our most massive brews. We sequestered the beer away, letting it sleep for over a year to wake just in time forthe 2014 release of Stone Old Guardian Barley Wine. Massive oak flavors from its long rest in the barrels complement the beer’s heftymalt character, marrying with delicious layers of caramel and vanilla from the bourbon-infused wood.
