San Diego’s Stone Brewing opened a brewery in Berlin in 2016 … so why not make the most authentic Berlin style of all and send it back to the United States? White Ghost is just that, a Berliner Weisse that gets its “orthodox sour and acidic character from a specially selected Lactobacillus strain sourced from local Berlin cultures,” the brewery says. I initially rolled my eyes at an American brewery importing its own beer from across the Atlantic, but guess what? It’s a lovely beer, intensely tart and featuring bold fruity notes of white peach and underripe melon.

This summer is all about tropical beers inspired by fruit and tiki cocktails
Escondido, California-based Stone Brewing’s senior manager of brewing and innovation Steve Gonzalez tells The Takeout one of the brewery’s latest IPAs, Scorpion Bowl, was actually intended to have fruit in it. It just so happened that he grabbed a drink of the beer before the fruit was added, though, and was blown away by how much fruit flavor was already there thanks to a combination of Loral and Mandarina Bavaria hops. He passed the beer around the brewery, and everyone agreed there was no need to even go forward with the fruit addition.

Stone White Geist Berliner Weisse is a refreshing and totally summer friendly beer style, but it’s also tart and a little bit fruity. Stone Brewing Co. moves new tanks to brewery in Richmond
Don’t think the local beer boom is tapped out just yet. More beer-brewing equipment has just arrived in Richmond. Four tanks, weighing 12.25 tons each, were shipped on a barge up the James River on Wednesday evening. On Thursday, the tanks were moved to Stone Brewing Co., the California-based craft brewer that opened its first East Coast brewery in Richmond’s Fulton neighborhood last year.

Stone Brewing Raises $72,000 for Northern California Wildfire Victims
Stone Brewing’s distributing division, Stone Distributing Co., donated $72,000 of its sales in the month of October to benefit those affected by the devastation of the recent Northern California fires. The donation was generated from a percentage of Stone beer sales and the sales of 17 of its supplier partners, most notably Bear Republic and Russian River of Sonoma County.
